[ENTRY TAKEN FROM THE OLD BLOG]
As I walked next door to borrow a few VHS tapes from the neighbors tonight, I noticed all of the blooming Agapanthus flours in front of our yard. I have 3 of them in my back garden as well and they have recently made me stop and think.
I planted these about 2.5 years ago to add some green to my garden. It was filler--since flowers can be quite expensive. These green leafy plants are safe houses for snails and spider webs, but during the summer they bloom beautiful flowers that look like fireworks. When looking for a picture of this "lily of the nile", there were only pictures of them in bloom. Nothing of what they look like 9 out of 12 months of the year.
During the year they just sit there. They stay green; they grow; they serve their purpose for some (my purpose for them was to take up space and add green). But are they only noticed in the summer? Are they only enjoyed during the summer? Are they planted solely based on their ability to bloom.
I am not in bloom. But I am green. I am here. Is my value solely based on my ability to bloom? Because I am not. One day I will bloom again. But for now, I wait.
