Pretzels and Beer
Pretzels and Beer

I guess this has become a food blog. whatever.
Last night I made pretzels for the first time. Gluten Free/Sugar Free pretzels, mind you. Why do I go to the trouble to find a recipe that is not only gluten free but sugar free? well, because of the 4 friends who cannot have gluten and the one friend who cannot have sugar. I guess this is how I show love to friends. The pretzels were a great compliment** to Brian’s Beer Tasting Party. (side note: beer sampling can be deceiving because you don’t really have any idea how much you have drunk.)
Instead of posting the recipe--I will direct you to the blog where I found it if you are interested. She has a really thorough step by step guide with pictures HERE. Please note that I just NOW read the heading of her blog. I don’t know how much I support the statement. maybe i do, i don’t know. I did change a few things from her recipeto make it gluten free.
Here’s my recipe for gluten free flour:
2c. Brown Rice Flour
2/3c. Potato Starch
1/3c. Tapioca Starch (you can get all these things at New Leaf or other stores)
add 1/4 t. Xanthum gum for every cup of flour you use. i.e. This recipe called for 8 cups of flour, so I put in 2 teaspoons of xanthum gum.
Here’s the crown I made for the winner. I’m pretty sure there was some cheating. Especially scoring something -1 or 11 when it is a scale of 1-10.
**you know what WASN’T a great compliment? Mohave Red.
